Gerardo was born in the Rio Grande Valley in Texas.
He spent early his early childhood in Mexico in cities like Monterrey where his paternal family is from.
When starting school his family moved to Dallas Texas and started an Artesania Mexican crafts importer-store.
Gerardo attended Dallas Magnet Schools for visual arts and spent his afternoons at the family store helping customers, doing homework, drawing, and reading comic books.
In a skyscraper across the street from the store there was a game development studio and while loading pottery into customers cars Gerardo would look up to it and dream about making games one day!
Summers were spent throughout Mexico, exploring the country, climbing pyramids, and seeing family.
Gerardo also visited artisan workshops to see how pottery, sculptures, and Mexican crafts were made. This was a hugely inspirational experience.
Gerardo attended Booker T Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts. The school is centered in the Dallas Arts District and is surrounded by museums, galleries, and theaters.
With rigorous art instruction, regular art exhibitions, artisan crafts at the family store, and exploring Mexico Gerardo was determined to become an artist.
Booker T. had SGI Unix-Irix workstations (Indy, Indy2, O2, Cray) with Power Animator 7 and Gerardo was fortunate to be able to learn the foundational skills that have driven him his entire career during this period.
